Having paid for both myself and a colleague in the pub this lunchtime, I asked for a receipt so I'd be better able to answer the inevitable question "how much do I owe?"

The receipt says:

2 Cola Pos WI SmGl 2.90
1 Gue 4.0-4.4 Pt 3.20
1 Gr. Brit Cod+Chi 8.95
1 MD LUN Stk+AlePi 6.99

The "Great British Cod and Chips" (as it appeared on the menu) is fairly easy to spot. The last item is my steak and ale pie, which was bought on the lunch deal (LUN?) I don't know if this is the Managing Director's LUNch deal, or a LUNch deal only available around MiDday. I considered it being a MeDium deal, but since their LUNch deal has four categories (and it is in the most expensive) I don't think that's a goer. Also, the plate of pie, mash and veg is chuffin' massive.

The SmGl in the first item confused me for some time - it wasn't a small glass, it was a pint! Eventually I noticed that there was two of it, so presumably anyone requesting a pint of soft drink is sold two halves. It was indeed cola (diet Pepsi, as it happens), but quite why it was supplied by the Womens' Institute is a mystery. Any ideas?

The remaining item is my pint of rather tasty Wai-Iti, which is a hoppy beer (with New Zealand hops, no less) brewed by Marston's. I highly recommend it if citrusy notes in your bitter appeal to you. After some thinking I have concluded that it is the Guest beer ("Gue") and they have a standard price per pint (Pt) of beer in the range 4-4.4% ABV.

I don't feel I should have to work quite so hard to decode my lunch, though :(

Aha!

No, as it happens... I presume ice is the default, and they were specifically marking "Without Ice" on the order.
